Sophie & Samantha
Hi! I’m Sophie and I am 17 years old. I love playing sports, especially field hockey and lacrosse. I also enjoy baking and hanging out with my friends.
When I was 11, my doctor suspected I had scoliosis at a yearly checkup. I was officially diagnosed a few months later, and my curves were around 35 and 25 degrees. My doctor recommended bracing, and so I got my Rigo-Cheneau brace in April of 2019. I wore my brace for an average of 21 hours a day for 3 years. Since I am done growing, I no longer wear a brace but still have curves of 35 and 18 degrees.
I have loved being a co-leader of the Northern VA/D.C. chapter for the past few years because I am grateful for the people I have met and the support we have for each other. When I was first diagnosed, I knew nothing about scoliosis and did not know anyone who had it. I felt self-conscious about my brace, but finding Curvy Girls was so helpful. I love having the opportunity to encourage and support other girls on their scoliosis journey, so they do not feel as alone!
My name is Samantha and I was diagnosed with scoliosis 2 years ago and had surgery for my scoliosis the summer of 2021. After that, i started wearing a back brace and have been wearing it for the past year and half. I like playing field hockey and softball.
When i was first diagnosed with scoliosis, I felt like there was no one that i could talk to about it until I found Curvy Girls. I want to make every girl with scoliosis feel like she has a supportive community of people just like her who she can talk to and relate to.
