Canada-Vancouver Isl

Holly

My name is Holly and I am 14 years old. I love music and reading. I live in Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island with my mom and dad, my older sister who is 20 and my two dogs.

My scoliosis journey began in July of 2024, when my mom noticed that my back looked “weird.” Within a short amount of time, we travelled to Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. I have a 34 degree curve in my lumbar spine and since I have a lot of growing left, I was prescribed a brace. I met a really nice orthotist named Carl who created a brace for me that I wear 20 hours a day. In addition to my brace, I do Schroth exercises five times a week.

Scoliosis was a surprise for me and for my family. It’s been a difficult adjustment, and some days are just really hard. But, I try to stay positive and be disciplined. I know that I will have to live with scoliosis forever.

I really like to help other people, and that is what inspired me to become a Curvy Girls Leader. I want to set a positive and optimistic example of living with scoliosis. I want to help other girls feel comfortable and confident. Accepting scoliosis as a part of who we are can be empowering, and as I get more empowered, I want to help others feel the same way.

I’m hoping that I can meet many girls on Vancouver Island who want to get together, learn, share stories and experiences and also just have some fun!
