Hi! My name is Meg and I live in Lincoln, Nebraska. I am on my school’s color guard team, and I enjoy reading, cooking, art, and hanging out with my friends in my free time.
I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 10. My older sister had been diagnosed with a much more severe curve when she was in 7th grade, and had undergone full spinal fusion surgery immediately, so we monitored my curve very closely for several years. It continued to get worse, until in 8th grade, I was fitted for a brace to wear 23 hours a day. After a little over a year in that brace, I got a new one that I am currently wearing 16 to 18 hours a day.
I started going to meetings for my local Curvy Girls about a year after getting my first brace, and I really enjoyed having the opportunity to talk to other people who were experiencing the same things I was at the same time. It was super helpful for me to learn the tips and tricks that other girls knew from experiences I hadn’t had yet, and feel supported by peers who understood what I was dealing with. I want to be able to give that same support that I felt when I joined to others by becoming the leader of the Nebraska CG chapter.
