Layla

Hi, my name is Layla. I was diagnosed with scoliosis 4 ½ years ago. I started wearing a brace right away and had needed to wear it 20-23 hours a day. I had an S curve (36° & 30°). By the time I had my surgery (April 2024), my curve had increased to 74° & 35°. When I wore a brace, I used to be ashamed of it and would try to hide it; but kids at school could still see it under my clothes and made fun of me. Last year, I decided that wearing a brace and scoliosis is a part of who I am. I wore my brace proudly and kids would ask questions. I felt good educating people about scoliosis, especially kids. I don’t let kids bring me down anymore. I make every effort to visit and be a part of community events where I can educate people about scoliosis.

I have a lot of hobbies and enjoy being active. I am on a basketball team at my school, I play guitar, piano, and flute. I love running, jazz dancing, and being a Girl Scout. I am an animal lover. Playing with my guinea pigs, cats, chickens and dogs is a daily activity. Building puzzles and playing board games with my family is super fun. I also love the different seasons in Montana where I enjoy skiing, sledding, and building snowmen with my twin sister, Crystal. All of this even after surgery.

I am so excited to be a CG Leader in Bozeman, MT. I desire to make friends that can relate to what I have gone through, and who need my guidance through their scoliosis journey. I love helping others and Curvy Girls is a great way to come together.
